America votes, Kentucky singer gets second chance on ‘American Idol’

When Marion County’s Layla Spring belted out Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away,” she not only wowed the judges, but America, also. Spring, 18, competed on Season 16 of “American Idol,” was one of three former fan favorites who were given a second chance to earn a Golden Ticket to Hollywood, along with Logan Johnson and Shawn Richardson. The trio was invited to audition for the new season, and their performances were aired Sunday night during the American Music Awards. Then it was left in the hands of the viewers, who cast their votes with the winner announced on Monday night’s “Dancing With the Stars” finale. When Lionel Richie announced Spring’s name as the winner, the little lady with the huge voice couldn’t believe it.
